Pros and Cons of Having a Discount Futures Trading Account

By Ulysses Faust

Are you interested in giving futures trading a try again? If you have already participated in the trading of futures, in the past, you may have a good idea of what to do, particularly when it comes to making a profit. If you are already familiar with futures trading, such as how the market works, how to research current commodity prices, and so on, you may want to look into getting a discount futures trading account, as it may be able to save you a considerable amount of money.

When it comes to having a discount futures trading account, you will see that different accounts qualify as being discounted. In all honesty, it depends on the futures broker that you choose to do business with, as many brokers charge different amounts of money for their accounts. In most cases, you will find a discount futures trading account labeled as a discount online trading account; one where you handle your account, update your portfolio, and make all of your trades yourself, online. Also, in some instances, a broker assisted trading account can also be considered a discount futures trading account. Since brokers are not used as often, often only when needed, the cost of these accounts are often discounted a slight bit.

As for the pros and cons of having a discounted futures trading account, the biggest pro is the money that you may be able to save. The fees of having discount futures trading accounts are much less than accounts that often termed as being professionally managed or full-service accounts. Since you do not need to rely on the assistance of a futures trading broker every time that you are ready to make a move, you can save yourself a considerable amount of money in fees.

As for the biggest con or downside of having a discount futures trading account, the downside is the responsibility that you will have. If you choose to have a discount or a deep discount online account, you will be responsible for all of your actions. This is because you will need to make your own trades and do your own market research. While it is more than possible for you to do this and make a profit, you need to be familiar with futures trading. That is why only those who have previous experience with futures trading are advised to have deep discount accounts. If you would like to test the waters, you are advised to first signup for a broker assisted account and work your way up from there.

If you are unsure as to whether or not a discount futures trading account is right for you, you may want to think about consulting with a futures broker first. For the best chance of a success, choose a futures broker that offers a wide array of trading account types, as well as one that has an outstanding reputation, particularly when it comes to helping both beginners and experienced traders.
